Plein air paintings Sept 2018

This month my husband and I, along with his best fishing friend Brian and his daughter,  took a week long camping pack trip to the Emigrant Basin, in Sonora County California. We hired a packer, who loaded all our gear on to mules, outfitted us with horses, and dropped our gear off as we rode 13+ miles into Buck Lake.
The trail was steep and rocky, our bottoms were sore but the views and fishing were great.
I took a small sketch book and watercolors as well as my oil paints. Here are the results.

The artist at work in the meadow capturing the far ridge, Black Hawk
First oil of the week, Black Hawk Ridge, oil 8 x 10
We called this tree, The Biggest Lodgepole We've Ever Seen
The majestic cliffs of granite that formed the valley around us.
8 x 10 oil
The cove where we camped at Upper Buck Lake and fished for 6 days.
8 x 10 oil

Watercolor sketch at Lower Buck Lake.  The granite cliffs surrounded the valley where we camped. The rainbow trout were plentiful but the winds picked up and made fly fishing difficult.

A watercolor sketch of the area where we camped. I loved the 'random boulders' resting
the on rock ledges.

Emigrant Lake, featuring snags and brisk winds. This was a 6.8 mile roundtrip hike
from our campsite.

Watercolor sketch at Lower Buck Lake, done when the windy conditions made fishing impossible.

  1. Hi Debb,

I love your artwork!!! Thanks for sharing it with us!! Recently I saw a post on Fb and realized that you had painted two pictures of Halter Ranch Winery (the barn pictures). That is where Alec and Karen were married Sept. 29, 2018! What great memories!! I was wondering if I could buy those two prints? Also, I'd like to purchase your 2020 calendar. I'm not sure if you have another website for purchasing, but I thought I'd start here at your blog. I know this is a busy time of year, so if we can't do this until after the first of the year - that's OK.
Hope you are doing well and not buried by all of the snow! Yeah! It's a great problem to have this time of year!
Let me know what you think - Thanks!!

    1. Great to hear from you Jane. And to hear your praise of my work.
I have a show in Mammoth now thru the first of February, and a lot of what I posted is now hanging in the gallery. But not the two oils of the barns at Halter Ranch. Let's talk about it, and they are definitely for sale, originals not prints, and also unframed so easy to mail. Size is 6 x 8
I don't have your current email address and the one I got was listed as 'unknown' and I can cypher out your email . Please email me at debbcampbell@gmail.com
I'm wrapping up calendars and packages for a trip to the USPS next week. I could add a 2020 calendar and the paintings to my bag :-)
      great to hear from you,
      debb
